4 Biggest Design Trends for 2017

Here at Stressfreehire we like to keep our finger on the pulse, which is why we’ve been on the lookout recently for brand new stock and ideas for photo shoots! In doing our research we’ve come across lots of exciting trends for 2017, so here are four of the biggest ideas we think are going to be huge – along with tips and tricks for how to put them into practice for your event! The key word this year is “tactile,” with inspiration being drawn from all things soft, dark and textural…

1. New Industrial

It looks as though “industrial” is here to stay, which is great news as it means some of our favourite items are still very much in style! This year it’s all about softening the look we all know and love, and finding creative ways to make “industrial” super pretty. Filament Light Bulbs are the quintessential industrial item, but they are also perfect for combining with all sorts of other decoration – florals, foliage, ribbons – to build beautiful and original installations. These work especially well as a focal point overhanging a bar or dining area, and choose soft, pastel or neutral colours to be completely on trend. Similarly, you can’t go wrong with Festoon Lightsthe perfect collision of pretty and industrial. We’ve also got our eye on Copper Wire Cages which have been cropping up all over Pinterest recently, perfect for hanging displays and for mixing and matching with other decoration to bring some industrial chic to your theme. We will very shortly be getting a selection of Copper Wire Cages in stock so watch this space!

2. Earthed

Last years outdoor theme was clean cut “botanical”, but this year we are reconnecting with all things wild. Take inspiration from deep, dark woodland and pair with a colour scheme of autumnal colours, such as dusky rose and sunset orange. The beauty of this trend is that it perfectly complements one of the biggest crazes of the moment, snug, hygge-inspired spaces! Artificial Foliage is going to be big this year, and we love this look so much we will soon be bulking up our stock with lots of new types of foliage. Birch TreesTwisted Willow Arches or our Enchanted Woodland Candelabra are perfect for giving an earthy feel to your decoration, but nothing gives more of a raw, autumnal feel than Wood Slice table centres. You can decorate these however you want to go with any theme and colour scheme. We especially love them combined with decorative moss and lanterns, for the perfect combination of wilderness and hygge. Brass Lanterns, Coach Lanterns and Copper Lanterns give off just the feeling of cosiness required…

3. Retro Infusion

For anybody who loves retro this design trend is a dream come true; think modern, contemporary style with nostalgic nods to the best of the past. The key to this look is in the space layout, so think wide open-plan areas made intimate with screens and dividers. Contrast soft, luxurious spaces with cubes and geometrics, and add in big blocks of colour, such as warm blues and daring reds, to give any event a modern retro feel! Our White Trellis Screens are a stylish and versatile screening option. You can dress them with other decor – such as boxwood hedging, bunting or florals –  to go with any theme, but they are fantastic left unadorned as well (and sharp white is a good contemporary balance if you’ve got bright colours going on elsewhere!) Another key element of this trend is the comfortable and luxurious, so it is important to create cosy chill-out areas. Oversized Cushions in bright colours are perfect for scattering round low tables, and our white Cube Seating areas are just the right blend of modern and retro. Small contemporary touches will go a long way to completing this look. Geometric Glass Terrariums, or Hanging Glass Terrariums give just the modern edge you need, perfect for table centres or hanging displays over a dining area!

4. Nocturne

Dark, moody and luxurious, “nocturne” is an exciting new trend all about embracing the spirit of night-time. Think a colour scheme of deep navy blues and velvet textures, paired with lots of metallics, and key items such as LED’s embedded in cloth. For an event, a Starcloth or Starlit Dancefloor is the perfect decorative backdrop for an injection of nocturne chic, which works wonderfully behind a band or to enhance a dancing area. Draping works well, especially in dark, soft fabrics, which you can contrast wonderfully with silver colours and metallic decor. Our Ornate Silver Mirror is a fantastic decorative feature, but also doubles up as a practical seating plan or message to welcome your guests, and Chrome Coach Lanterns flanking a doorway set the right welcoming tone. Utilising outdoor spaces with lighting is a great idea for this theme. Pealights are a simple yet extremely effective way to suggest glimmering starlight, and a row of Copper Paraffin Torches burning through the night, or a row of Small Coach Lanterns on crooks, will give a nocturnal feel to any outdoor space!
